Why service businesses need a different playbook

Most marketing advice is written for products. A service business doesn’t have a cart. It has a phone, a calendar and a capacity limit. The buying moment is short, local and often urgent, and the sale is won or lost at intake rather than at the click.

So the plan looks different. Visibility has to be local and immediate: the map pack, the search ad, the page that answers the exact question. The site has to make ringing you effortless on a phone. And the reporting has to follow enquiries through to won or lost work, because a service business with 40 leads and 3 jobs doesn’t have a marketing problem, it has an intake problem, and only tracking tells you which one you’ve got.

That’s the whole discipline: found, chosen, booked, measured. It applies whether you’re a plumber in Belmont or an accounting firm in the CBD, the channels shift, the sequence doesn’t.

Straight terms

No mark-up on ad spend. Ninety days to build the engine, then month to month. One trade per service area on paid lead generation.

The engine we run

Four stages. The fourth is the one most agencies skip, and it’s the one that tells you whether any of it worked.

01
Get Found

Rank and bid where your buyers actually search: Google Business Profile, local SEO, search ads.

02
Get Chosen

A fast site, pages that answer the exact question asked, and reviews that outnumber the competitor’s.

03
Get Booked

Click-to-call, short forms, response-time discipline. Most agencies stop at the click, jobs are won at intake.

04
Know What Paid

Every enquiry tracked to its source and the job it became. Cost per enquiry, cost per signed client.

Which program fits

Programs are banded by revenue, the way the ABS sizes Australian business, so a sole operator and a multi-crew group aren’t sold the same plan. No prices on the site; the exact number is stated plainly on the audit call, before any commitment.

Who it’s not for

Businesses chasing maximum lead volume with no capacity to service it, or marketing with no call tracking, we’re the wrong agency, and we’ll say so on the call.

Proof you can check.

We publish two client results, both read from inside the client’s own admin with their permission. Both are online stores. The method is the one we run for service businesses: track every enquiry to the booked job first, fix the page that converts, then put the budget behind what works.

Questions

What counts as a service business?

Trades and home services, health and clinics, professional services like accounting, legal and broking, and local operators such as cleaning, automotive and removals. If your customer books time rather than buys a product, you’re in the right place.

How is this different from an e-commerce agency?

Completely different funnel. E-commerce optimises a cart; service businesses optimise a phone call and a calendar. We run both practices, which is exactly why we don’t apply one playbook to the other.

How fast do enquiries start?

Ads and Google Business Profile work can move within weeks. Local SEO and review momentum compound over a quarter or more. Tracking goes in first, so you can see it happening rather than take our word for it.

Do you work outside Victoria?

Yes, we’re Geelong-based and work with service businesses across Australia. Local presence helps for in-person meetings; the work itself runs anywhere.
